Wills and Estates
Connons of Stonehaven have years of experience
in helping families deal with legal matters when someone dies. Our Partner
Gordon Ritchie has many years experience in such matters and is always able to give advice.
Home visits are offered.
Making a Will
Making a Will is one way of being sure that
your money and possessions will be distributed as you wish after your death. In certain
cases if you do not leave a Will the results can be disastrous for your family or close
partner and your money may not end up where you would have wished. If you own a house or
flat it is particularly important to leave proper instructions.
How do I make a Will?
Connons can guide you through the very simple
procedures involved here and will take your instructions and prepare the Will that is
right for you. In practice in many cases it will only take a five or ten minute meeting to
deal with this.
Connons can also advise you whether
Inheritance Tax will have to be paid when you die. There are a number of steps which can
be taken to reduce Tax Liability and in appropriate cases Inheritance Tax planning may
save substantial sums of money.
The cost of making a Will
is generally not that great. Gordon Ritchie will be pleased to give you a quotation on request. We offer to
make a standard will free on completion of a house purchase.
Winding up the Estate
Connons pride themselves on providing a
speedy and efficient service here and have a reputation for dealing with matters quickly
and sympathetically. The Executors appointed under the Will normally instruct the
Solicitors to deal with the administration of the Estate. In many cases these days it may
not be necessary to go through all the formalities and advice will be given when making a
Will on how to organise your affairs to minimise the work requiring to be carried out
after your death.
Powers of Attorney
Connons will be happy to advise on the
granting of a Power of Attorney which enables someone to manage your affairs when you are
no longer able to do so. Gordon Ritchie has many years experience in handling the affairs of
elderly clients who are either no longer able to look after their business affairs or who
simply do not wish to do so. Again Connons offer a friendly and efficient service here and
Gordon Ritchie will be happy to discuss this with you on request.
